Teachers and school leaders around the world have been stepping up to lead in an unprecedented crisis, providing remote instruction for over 1.5 billion students. Rather than a learning curve, this is more of a roller coaster. An unfortunate casualty in our frantic effort to elevate, utilize, and implement distance learning platforms for content delivery can be social emotional learning (SEL). Yet with students in isolation, great change, and increased anxiety, our SEL practices are all the more necessary for whole child well-being. Join me to look at routines, strategies, and ideas for weaving relationship focused learning into our distance learning work. As we learn to reshape our practice as educators, we also learn to reshape what drew many of us to this profession to begin with -- connecting with and inspiring learners to care, dig in, and thrive even amid widespread disruption.
